Product Overview

Lavandula Dentata Candicans Grey French Lavender is an attractive evergreen shrub valued for its soft silver-grey foliage, aromatic leaves and long-lasting lavender-purple flowers. Its naturally bushy habit and Mediterranean character make it ideal for borders, low hedges, cottage gardens, herb gardens, pathways and large containers.

Growth:

Lavandula Dentata Candicans forms a dense, rounded shrub generally growing around 1 to 1.5 metres high and approximately 1 metre wide. The foliage is noticeably more silver-grey than standard French Lavender, giving the plant strong year-round ornamental value.

Light Requirements:

Plant in full sun for the best growth, foliage colour and flowering. It will tolerate some light shade, but flowering is strongest in a sunny, open position.

Soil Requirements:

Grey French Lavender prefers well-drained soil and performs particularly well in sandy, loamy or slightly alkaline conditions. Good drainage is essential, as lavender does not tolerate prolonged waterlogging.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, watering requirements are relatively low and the soil should be allowed to dry slightly between waterings.

Frost Tolerance:

Lavandula Dentata Candicans has moderate frost tolerance. Established plants can handle light frost, but protection from severe or prolonged frost is beneficial, particularly for younger plants.

Drought Tolerance:

Once established, Grey French Lavender has good drought tolerance and performs well in warm, dry conditions. Occasional deep watering during extended periods of extreme heat will help maintain plant quality.

Flowering Information:

Fragrant lavender to pale purple flower spikes are held above the silver-grey foliage on slender stems. Flowering can occur over a long period, with particularly strong displays from autumn through winter and spring depending on climate and pruning.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow approximately 80cm to 1 metre between plants for individual shrubs. Slightly closer spacing can be used when creating a low hedge or continuous border.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Lavender generally requires only light feeding. Apply a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring if required and avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage soft leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

Care and Maintenance:

Lightly trim after flowering to maintain a dense, compact shape and encourage fresh growth. Avoid cutting heavily into old woody stems, as lavender may not regenerate readily from bare wood. Good airflow and free-draining soil are important for long-term plant health.
