Product Overview

Leptospermum Lavender Queen Tea Tree is a compact evergreen native shrub prized for its rounded foliage and abundant lilac-pink to mauve flowers in spring. With its attractive, small round leaves, striking floral display, and adaptable nature, it is well suited for feature gardens, hedging, coastal sites, and mass planting.

Growth:

Grows to about 1.5 m high and roughly 1-2 m wide in favourable conditions, forming a dense, rounded or slightly spreading shrub.

Light Requirements:

Thrives in full sun to part shade. Flowering is best with good sunlight; in shadier spots it still grows, though flowers may be fewer.

Soil Requirements:

Prefers well-drained soils, including sandy, loamy, or light clay types. Tolerates a range of pH (acidic to neutral) so long as drainage is good.

Water Requirements:

Needs regular watering to establish. Once established, tolerant of dry periods but benefits from occasional deeper watering during very hot or dry spells.

Frost Tolerance:

Tolerant of light frost. In cooler climates minor frost damage may occur on new growth, but it recovers well.

Drought Tolerance:

Good drought tolerance once established. Handles moderate dry conditions well, though soil moisture helps prolong flowering and foliage health.

Flowering Information:

Flowers in spring (and sometimes into summer), producing large lilac-pink to mauve blooms around 20–30 mm in diameter. The flowering display is abundant and decorative.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow about 1-2 m between plants to accommodate mature spread and ensure good airflow. Closer spacing is possible if regularly pruned.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Low feeding requirement. A light application of native plant or slow-release fertiliser in spring is sufficient. Avoid overfertilising.

Care and Maintenance:

Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Remove dead or straggly stems as needed.
