Product Overview

Grevillea Orange Wow is a versatile shrub prized for its vibrant orange “toothbrush” flowers, dense foliage, and moderate size, making it ideal for small to medium gardens, mass plantings, or screening hedges. It’s also a nectar source for wildlife, attracting birds and insects.

Growth:

Typically grows to about 1-1.5 m high and 1-2 m wide when mature. In more generous conditions or when grafted, it can extend up to 2 m high and spread out to 3 m wide, especially when used as a cascading or spreading specimen.

Light Requirements:

Performs best in full sun to part shade. Full sun produces the densest growth, most abundant flowering, and brightest flower colours.

Soil Requirements:

Prefers well-drained soils - sandy, loamy or light soils are ideal. Does not thrive in heavy, waterlogged ground.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly during establishment. Once established, it tolerates periods of dryness; occasional deep watering helps during extended hot, dry spells to support flowering.

Frost Tolerance:

Moderately frost tolerant once established. Light frosts generally cause little damage; though severe or prolonged frost may affect flower production and cause minor foliage damage.

Drought Tolerance:

Good drought tolerance once established. With its Australian-native hardiness, it copes well with dry conditions and is suitable for low-water gardens.

Flowering Information:

Produces bright orange “toothbrush” flowers that mature from yellow-green buds, with vibrancy peaking in Spring through to Autumn. The long flowering period and nectar-rich blooms make it attractive to nectar-feeding birds and pollinators.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow roughly 1-2 m between plants for full development, or 1-1.5 m in tighter screening or hedge plantings.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Low feeding needs. A light application of low-phosphorus native plant fertiliser in Spring is sufficient. High-phosphorus fertilisers should be avoided to prevent leaf discolouration or stress.

Care and Maintenance:

Lightly prune after major flowering flushes to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth and repeat flowering. Remove spent flower clusters to tidy appearance and reduce seed set if desired. Mulch to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds, while ensuring good drainage around the plant base.
