Product Overview

Lagerstroemia Indica x L. Fauriei 'ACOMA' Indian Summer® Crepe Myrtle is a deciduous small tree or large shrub renowned for its abundant white flowers and attractive, peeling bark. This cultivar is part of the Indian Summer® range, celebrated for its resistance to powdery mildew and suitability to Australian climates.

Growth:

Acoma typically reaches a height and width of approximately 3 metres, forming a low-spreading, semi-pendulous canopy. Its moderate growth rate and compact size make it ideal for small gardens, large containers, or as a feature plant in landscape designs.

Light Requirements:

Thrives in full sun, which promotes optimal flowering and growth. While it can tolerate partial shade, reduced sunlight may lead to diminished flowering.

Soil Requirements:

Prefers well-drained, fertile soils but is adaptable to a range of soil types, including sandy and loamy soils. It tolerates a wide pH range, from acidic to slightly alkaline, making it versatile for various planting sites.

Water Requirements:

Regular watering is essential during the establishment phase. Once established, Acoma is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods to support flowering and overall health.

Frost Tolerance:

Exhibits good frost tolerance, making it suitable for cooler climates. No special frost protection is typically required.

Drought Tolerance:

Once established, this variety exhibits moderate drought tolerance. However, prolonged dry conditions can reduce flowering and vigor, so supplemental watering during extended droughts is beneficial.

Flowering Information:

Blooms from summer to early autumn, producing pure white flowers with prominent gold anthers borne in panicles up to 18 cm long. The flowers contrast beautifully with the dark green foliage, creating a striking display.

Spacing Requirements:

For landscape planting, space plants approximately 3 metres apart to accommodate their mature canopy spread and ensure proper air circulation.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to support new growth and flowering. Avoid excessive fertilisation, as this can lead to lush foliage at the expense of blooms.

Care and Maintenance:

Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or crossing branches and to maintain a desirable shape. Minimal pruning is required, as excessive trimming can reduce flowering. Acoma is generally pest-resistant and low-maintenance, making it an excellent choice for urban and residential landscapes.
