Gardenia Augusta Magnifica

Gardenia augusta Magnifica is an evergreen shrub renowned for its large, double white flowers and sweet fragrance. Its glossy, dark green foliage and abundant blooms make it ideal for hedges, feature planting, and containers, adding elegance to any garden.

Growth:

Magnifica grows to a height and width of 1.5 to 2 metres, forming a dense and rounded habit. Its lush foliage provides a beautiful backdrop for its showy blooms.

Light Requirements:

Thrives in full sun to part shade. In hotter climates, some shade during the afternoon helps protect the leaves and maintain flower quality.

Soil Requirements:

Prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Regular soil moisture is essential for optimal growth, but avoid waterlogging.

Water Requirements:

Requires consistent watering during the growing season. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Frost Tolerance:

Frost-sensitive, Magnifica may require protection in colder climates. In frost-prone areas, it performs well in containers that can be moved indoors during winter.

Drought Tolerance:

Moderately drought-tolerant once established, though regular watering supports better flowering and overall plant health.

Flowering Information:

Blooms from late spring through summer, producing highly fragrant, double white flowers. The blossoms create a luxurious display that lasts through the growing season.

Spacing Requirements:

Space plants 1 metre apart to allow for natural growth and proper air circulation.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a fertiliser designed for acid-loving plants every 6–8 weeks during the growing season to encourage healthy growth and prolific blooming.

Care and Maintenance:

Low-maintenance and easy to grow, Magnifica benefits from light pruning after flowering to maintain its shape. Deadheading encourages continuous blooms, while mulching improves soil health.
