Product Overview

Correa Marian's Marvel is a hardy Australian native shrub valued for its dense spreading habit and attractive tubular flowers in shades of pink, cream and lime green. It is well suited to native gardens, informal hedges, screening, cottage-style planting and wildlife-friendly landscapes. Australian Native Plants Society sources describe it as an old, widely grown cultivar that flowers for much of the year.

Growth:

Correa Marian's Marvel is an evergreen spreading shrub generally growing around 1.3 to 2 metres high and approximately 1.5 to 3 metres wide, depending on conditions and pruning. It develops a dense canopy of small green leaves and can be maintained at a more compact size with regular trimming.

Light Requirements:

Grow in full sun to part shade. It performs particularly well in lightly shaded or dappled positions but will also tolerate sunnier sites where moisture is adequate.

Soil Requirements:

Marian's Marvel prefers well-drained soil and adapts to a range of garden soil types. Improving heavy soils and avoiding prolonged waterlogging will help maintain healthy root growth.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly during establishment to develop a strong root system. Once established, watering requirements are relatively low, although occasional deep watering during prolonged hot and dry periods will help maintain healthy growth and flowering.

Frost Tolerance:

Correa Marian's Marvel has good frost tolerance once established and is regarded as a hardy cultivar suitable for a wide range of Australian climates.

Drought Tolerance:

Once established, Marian's Marvel has good drought tolerance. Supplementary watering is still beneficial during extended periods of extreme heat and dry weather.

Flowering Information:

Pendulous tubular flowers are produced in soft shades of pink with cream to lime-green tips. Flowering is strongest from autumn through winter and spring, although established plants may produce flowers over a much longer period of the year.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow approximately 1.5 to 2 metres between plants when growing as individual shrubs. Closer spacing can be used for a denser informal hedge or screen.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a slow-release fertiliser suitable for Australian native plants during spring if additional feeding is required. Correas are less phosphorus-sensitive than some Australian natives, but a native-formulated fertiliser remains a suitable choice.

Care and Maintenance:

Lightly prune after a major flowering period to maintain a dense, compact shape and control spread. Mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and regulate soil temperature, keeping mulch clear of the main stems.
