Product Overview
Best Friend Hybrid Tea Bush Rose is a bold and expressive rose variety that celebrates the loyalty and love we share with our closest companions. Known for its deep plum-pink blooms and exceptional perfume, this striking hybrid tea rose has a strong sentimental appeal and an equally strong garden performance. It's a meaningful and stylish choice for gardeners wanting a vibrant floral display with heart.
Growth:
This variety forms a tall, upright bush that typically reaches around 1.5 metres in height and spreads to about 1.1 metres wide. It produces sturdy stems that support large, well-formed flowers which are perfect for cutting. With its strong growth and neat shape, Best Friend fills out garden beds beautifully and adds structure to rose collections.
Light Requirements:
For the richest colour and the most flowers, plant in a full sun location. At least six hours of sunlight per day will give this rose the conditions it needs to thrive. While some shade is tolerated, too little light may reduce flower production and make the plant more prone to disease.
Soil Requirements:
Plant in fertile, free-draining soil that holds moisture but doesn’t become soggy. Adding compost or organic matter will help improve soil condition and support strong root development. A neutral to slightly acidic soil pH is ideal.
Water Requirements:
During dry periods or in hot weather, keep the soil around the plant evenly moist. Water deeply two to three times per week rather than shallow watering more often. Avoid wetting the foliage where possible to limit fungal issues.
Frost Tolerance:
Best Friend is well-suited to cooler Australian climates and can tolerate light frosts once established. If growing in a frost-prone area, position the plant in a spot protected from harsh early morning chills to reduce frost impact on young growth.
Drought Tolerance:
Once settled into the garden, this rose copes fairly well with dry spells, though consistent watering is key to keeping the blooms large and lush. Apply mulch around the base of the plant to retain soil moisture and keep the roots cool in summer.
Flowering Information:
Expect generous flushes of large, classic-shaped blooms from late spring right through to autumn. The flowers are a rich, velvety plum-pink and carry a strong, sweet fragrance with fruity and floral notes. The blooms make excellent cut flowers and have good vase life.
Spacing Requirements:
Allow about 1.1 metres between plants to give each rose room to develop fully. Good spacing promotes air circulation and reduces the chance of disease in more humid conditions.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Feed with a complete rose food in early spring as new growth appears. A second application after the first major flush will help maintain flower production. Liquid tonics and fertilisers can also be used for a nutrient boost during the growing season.
Care and Maintenance:
Prune hard in late winter to remove old wood and shape the bush. Remove spent flowers regularly during flowering season to encourage repeat blooming. Mulch annually and monitor for pests such as aphids or scale, treating early to prevent infestations.
