Product Overview
Azalea Indica White Osta is an attractive evergreen flowering shrub prized for its masses of clean white blooms and dense dark green foliage. Its classic colour and compact growth make it an excellent choice for garden beds, informal hedges, shaded borders, courtyards and containers.
Growth:
Azalea Indica White Osta forms a dense, rounded evergreen shrub generally growing around 1 to 1.2 metres high and approximately 1 metre wide. It responds well to light pruning and can be maintained at a more compact size if required.
Light Requirements:
Plant in part shade to filtered sunlight. Morning sun with protection from harsh afternoon sun is ideal, particularly in warmer climates.
Soil Requirements:
White Osta prefers well-drained, acidic soil rich in organic matter. Avoid alkaline or waterlogged soils. Incorporating compost and using a soil or potting mix formulated for Azaleas and Camellias will help provide suitable growing conditions.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during flowering and warm weather. Azaleas have shallow root systems and should not be allowed to dry out completely for extended periods.
Frost Tolerance:
Azalea Indica White Osta has moderate frost tolerance once established. Young plants and developing flowers may benefit from protection during severe or prolonged frost.
Drought Tolerance:
White Osta has limited drought tolerance and performs best with reliable moisture. Mulching around the root zone will help retain moisture and keep the shallow roots cool during hot weather.
Flowering Information:
Large white flowers are produced in abundance, creating a bright display against the dark green foliage. Flowering is strongest from late winter through spring, with scattered flowers possible at other times depending on climate and growing conditions.
Spacing Requirements:
Allow approximately 80cm to 1 metre between plants for individual shrubs. Closer spacing can be used when creating a dense informal hedge or continuous border.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Apply a fertiliser formulated for Azaleas, Camellias and other acid-loving plants after flowering and again during the growing season if required. Avoid excessive fertiliser and products that may increase soil pH.
Care and Maintenance:
Lightly prune after the main flowering period to maintain shape and encourage dense new growth. Apply an organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and protect the shallow roots, keeping mulch clear of the main stems. Avoid deep cultivation around established plants.
