Product Overview
Azalea Indica Pacific Twilight is an attractive evergreen flowering shrub prized for its abundant mauve-pink double flowers and small glossy green foliage. Its soft colouring and compact rounded habit make it an excellent choice for shaded garden beds, borders, informal hedges, courtyards and containers.
Growth:
Azalea Indica Pacific Twilight forms a dense evergreen shrub generally growing around 1 metre high and approximately 1 metre wide. Its naturally bushy habit responds well to light pruning after flowering.
Light Requirements:
Plant in part shade to filtered sunlight. Morning sun with protection from harsh afternoon sun is ideal, particularly in warmer climates.
Soil Requirements:
Pacific Twilight prefers acidic, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Avoid alkaline soils, lime and waterlogged conditions. A soil or potting mix formulated for Azaleas and Camellias is ideal.
Water Requirements:
Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during flowering and warm weather. Azaleas have shallow root systems and should not be allowed to dry out completely for extended periods.
Frost Tolerance:
Azalea Indica Pacific Twilight has moderate frost tolerance once established. Young plants, flower buds and open blooms may benefit from protection during severe frost.
Drought Tolerance:
Pacific Twilight has limited drought tolerance and performs best with reliable moisture. Mulching around the root zone will help conserve moisture and keep the shallow roots cool during hot weather.
Flowering Information:
Large double flowers in clear mauve-pink tones are produced in abundance during spring, creating a striking display against the glossy green foliage.
Spacing Requirements:
Allow approximately 80cm to 1 metre between plants for individual shrubs. Slightly closer spacing can be used when creating a dense informal hedge or continuous border.
Fertiliser Requirements:
Apply a fertiliser formulated for Azaleas, Camellias and other acid-loving plants after flowering and again during active growth if required. Avoid excessive fertiliser and products containing lime.
Care and Maintenance:
Lightly prune after flowering to maintain a dense, rounded shape and encourage fresh growth. Apply organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and protect the shallow roots, keeping mulch clear of the main stems. Avoid deep cultivation around established plants.
