Product Overview

Mandevilla Summerstar Pink is a vibrant evergreen climber prized for its masses of bright pink trumpet-shaped flowers and glossy green foliage. Flowering over an extended period through the warmer months, it is ideal for trellises, fences, arbours, balconies and large containers where it can provide colourful vertical interest.

Growth:

Mandevilla Summerstar Pink is a fast-growing twining climber that typically reaches approximately 2 to 3 metres high when provided with suitable support. It can be trained along trellises, fences and other structures and pruned to maintain a more compact size.

Light Requirements:

Plant in full sun to part shade. A warm position with plenty of sunlight will encourage strong growth and prolific flowering.

Soil Requirements:

Summerstar Pink prefers fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Good drainage is important, particularly during cooler weather, as Mandevillas perform poorly in persistently wet soil.

Water Requirements:

Water regularly during establishment and maintain consistent moisture through the warmer growing season. Provide additional water during periods of summer heat, while allowing excess water to drain freely. Mulching around the root zone will help conserve soil moisture.

Frost Tolerance:

Mandevilla Summerstar Pink has limited frost tolerance and should be protected from heavy frost and cold winds. In frost-prone areas, plant in a warm, sheltered position such as against a north-facing wall or grow in a container that can be moved to protection during severe cold.

Drought Tolerance:

Established plants can tolerate short periods of dryness, but Summerstar Pink performs and flowers best with reliable moisture during hot weather. Avoid allowing the root zone to remain completely dry for extended periods.

Flowering Information:

Large, trumpet-shaped deep pink flowers with a subtle yellow centre are produced from late spring through summer and into autumn. Flowers are carried along the stems, creating an impressive display against the glossy green foliage.

Spacing Requirements:

Allow approximately 1 to 1.5 metres between plants when growing along fences, trellises or other supports. Closer spacing can be used where a denser flowering screen is desired.

Fertiliser Requirements:

Apply a controlled-release fertiliser in spring as active growth begins. Additional feeding during the warmer growing season can help support continued growth and flowering, particularly for plants grown in containers.

Care and Maintenance:

Provide a trellis, fence or other structure for the twining stems to climb. Prune as required to control size, encourage branching and maintain the desired shape. Mulch around the root zone and provide regular water during summer, particularly during periods of extreme heat.
